Optimizing Renovation Projects Using Building Performance Analysis
- Sponsor: Covetool

Course Description
Buildings contribute nearly 40% of annual global CO2 emissions currently and about two-thirds of the global building stock will still exist in 2040. If not retrofitted, the existing buildings will continue to generate unsustainable levels of carbon emissions. Thus, this session will showcase how each one of these projects can be an ideal opportunity to incorporate enhanced energy performance strategies, without much extra effort or expense.
This session will walk you through the workflow for setting up a renovation project (Interior only and Interior + Exterior) for performance modeling in cove.tool. It will also touch on tips and tricks, how to run specific analysis types (Daylight, Glare, COVID, Energy, Carbon, Cost and Water) on renovation projects and a number of case studies emphasizing the same.
Note: Certificates of Completion will be emailed in a PDF format for your records right away. Please allow for up to 3 to 4 weeks to receive AIA credit for the course.
Learning Objectives
- Define the concept and types of retrofitting/renovation projects and how they are going to affect the AEC industry.
- Identify the need to optimize the renovation projects for energy, cost and carbon. Some common terms and concepts used.
- Step by step workflow of conducting a performance analysis for renovation projects.
- Showcase case studies that demonstrate the daylight, glare, energy, cost, carbon and water strategies for renovation projects.
