Glass Entrance Systems in Commercial Spaces

Along with the aesthetic benefits of glass entrances come unique challenges. This course covers current topics in glass entrance design and key considerations when selecting door hardware. Participants will receive an overview of specification criteria to ensure glass entrances and doors comply with safety, accessibility, and performance requirements while meeting the visual goals of the project.

Learning Objective

  • Review glass door types and applications including storefronts, curtain walls, point-supported glass walls, and transoms with floating headers.
  • Understand applicable building codes to ensure door openings comply with safety, accessibility, and thermal performance requirements.
  • Learn about the current trends that are influencing the future of glass entrances, including larger glass sizes and energy codes.
  • Review considerations related to panic and/or emergency egress devices including UL requirements, occupant loads, and opening force.
