Dr. Shawn Hunter
Global Sustainability Leader
Dr. Shawn Hunter aspires to drive the transition to a sustainable society through the power of business leadership. As global sustainability leader for DuPont Performance Building Solutions and Corian® Design, he is responsible for setting the sustainability vision for the business and driving the business sustainability strategy, in alignment with DuPont’s 2030 Sustainability Goals. He also leads product stewardship for the business, working with a global team of passionate product sustainability managers to activate the business commitment to product stewardship and product sustainability.
An expert in sustainability with nearly 15 years of experience in business sustainability programs, his background spans R&D, corporate sustainability, and leadership roles at Dow and DuPont. Recently, Hunter led the development and launch of the DuPont Performance Building Solutions and Corian® Design sustainability program, which links the sustainability beliefs of the business to five specific goals. He also played a role in crafting DuPont’s 2030 innovation sustainability goals, helping define company aspirations across the UN Sustainable Development Goals, the circular economy, and green chemistry. At Dow, he led the development of Dow’s 2025 Sustainability Goals, working across the organization to define and deliver the content for the goals. Prior to that, he served as a certified Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) practitioner and business sustainability consultant within Dow, and he led the development and implementation of Dow’s portfolio sustainability assessment tool, the Sustainable Chemistry Index, in support of Dow’s 2015 Sustainable Chemistry goal. He also participated in Dow’s international assignment program, spending a year in Milan, Italy working as part of the Equipolymers commercial team to support new product development and customer sustainability initiatives.
Dr. Hunter holds a PhD in Chemical Engineering, with a master’s concentration in environmental sustainability, from the University of Michigan, where he provides guest lectures on sustainability in chemical engineering courses.
